The first International Conference of Thermochemical Conversion & Bioenergy took place in Łódź from 26th to 28th September. It brought together scientists from around the world who specialize in thermochemical biomass processing techniques and renewable energy sources.
The event turned out to be a great success, and the organizers are already announcing the next edition for incoming year.
In addition to scientists from various universities, participants from industrial sector, lawyers and localgovernments also attended the conference.
The conference started with a speech from VIP guests Vice-Rector of Łódź University of Technology prof. Łukasz Albrecht and Dean of the Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineering prof. Grzegorz Wielgosiński
The TCCB conference was divided into four areas of study: thermochemical conversion technics, hydrogen technologies, biomass conditioning and renewable energy sources in circular economy.Attenders could show their research finding through presenting posters and lectures.
Additionally, the debate on the energy transformation was conducted. During which guests discussed, the bigest challanges in Energy transiton, renewable energy sources, policy and regulations.

The organisers of TCCB conference prepared for their participants not only the substantive part, but also entertainment and relaxation time. After first day of conference a trip to city Uniejów was organisers for attenders. They could pick whether they would rather go swim in aquapark Termy Uniejów or go sightseeing the local castle and geothermal power plant. At the end of the day, a dinner was organized in the form of an outdoor barbecue with music.
Besides that, on the last day of conference a trip to an old thermal power plant in Łódź with a guide was organized. During it participants visited the historic first municipal power plant, which operated from 1907 to 2001 and currently serves an educational purposes.
The official gala has been organised to present awards for a best poster and best oral presentation. The gala took place in Hampton by Hilton hotel. After analysing the jury’s scoring, which included: dr hab. eng. Szymon Szufa, prof. Iwona Jelonek and prof. Stanisław Ledakowicz, they announced that the winner of the best poster is Beata Kobacka from Lodz University of Technology with her poster about „Pressureless granulation of biochar with the addition of mineral fraction”. Dr Panagiotis Regkouzasfrom Technical University of Crete won an oral presentation category with his lecture about „Biochar from waste biomass: a sustainable and multi-application product promoting circular economy”
After the official ceremony, guests were served a special occasion cake followed by a gala dinner, and later in the evening a drink bar and DJ entertained the participants.
The first TCCB conference was a big succeed. Plans for next year conference are already being made.With a great pleasure we would like to invite all interested participants for next edition of International Conference of Thermochemical Conversion & Bioenergy in Łódź.
